It seems that most of the malls in the U.A.E are facing a lot of difficulties during the recession. It has now gotten to the stage where at least most shops are closing down in various malls. Here is what I mean:
-At Mall Of The Emirates, about 45% of stores are closing down leaving their customers sad and of course business is starting to fall at Ski Dubai. Carrefour is still busy but that's not enough help. Virgin Megastore, isn't doing that great.
-At Mercato, 20% of the stores have closed down. Many clothing stores are suffering because not many people are shopping that much anymore. At least Grand Cinemas is keeping their customers happy :) Spinney's Supermarket is also doing pretty well, since they have started lowering some of their prices :)
-Town Center (the mall next to Mercato), 70% of their stores have closed down but luckily their still hanging on by a thin thread because of Sumo (the Japanese Restaurant), Bateel (Date and Chocolate Shop) and Cafe Ceramic (An amazing shop for painting bowls and places and other ceramics and they have great food) and last but not least. Their food court which consists of 1 restaurant: Kebabi and they offer great food. Luckily for them those 4 shops are actually running the entire mall by themselves :)
-Time Square Mall, about 85% of the mall is literally closed. The only shops they have are Chill Out (Ice Cafe), A small food court, and the main branch of Sharaf DG. They have a Hello Kitty store, but no one shops there because it's lame and boring.
-Dubai Mall, about a few stores closed down (Magrudy's bookstore and various shops closed down recently) so about 4% of the stores in general are closed but Dubai Mall is opening a lot of new stuff like Virgin Megastore (next to Kinokuneya bookstore), Red Lobster and a couple of clothing stores and restaurants (P.F Chang's as well). They're doing pretty well. I remember once I told XTR, that if Dubai Mall ever opens Virgin Megastore, then most malls would suffer and then they might close and judging by the looks of things, the other malls are hanging by a thin thread except for Mercato, they're doing just fine :)
So leave a comment if you have anything else to say :)
